After Patriots Loss Massachusetts Turns Towards Online Gambling Discussions
The New England Patriots had themselves a rough day on Sunday in the AFC Championship game. The loss by the Patriots to playoff rival Baltimore left a sour taste in the mouths of many Massachusetts residents, while others moved along setting their sights on bigger and better things.
Massachusetts is entering an era of expanded gambling, and one of the main topics on the agenda for 2013 will be online gambling. Internet sales of lottery tickets and other games is one of the things that the Massachusetts State Online Products Task Force will be pushing for this Spring.
The issue of Internet gambling is one that has filled statehouses across the US over the past few years, and in 2013 it will be Massachusetts’ lawmakers turn to tackle the issue. Already, legislators have authorized new casino resorts in the state, and online gambling could be next.
In preparation for the possible law changes, the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling will be hosting a public forum to discuss the dangers of Internet gambling. The forum is open to anyone that would like to further their knowledge on a hobby that is growing on a national level.
The forum will have many topics discussed, but the most pressing topic will be how existing problem gamblers will handle any new law changes allowing online gambling.
Speaking at the forum will be Executive Director of the National Council on Problem Gambling Keith Whyte. Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling’s Phil Kopel will also speak.
The forum will be held at 7PM, on February 7th at the Langham Hotel in Boston.
