California Joins Growing National Powerball Craze
The state of California is not new to gambling, and they even have lawmakers discussing possibly entering the online casino market. On Wednesday, however, the state entered into the Internet gambling arena through the Powerball Lottery. The game that has customers in dozens of states has added California to their player pool.
California becomes the latest state to get in on the Powerball craze that has created some of the largest lottery jackpots in the history of the US. The jackpots, at times have reached triple figures in the millions, and with players across the country taking their chance at winning the big prize, the jackpot gets bigger with each week that nobody wins.
Powerball and MegaMillions are the only two multi-state lottery games. Powerball gained notoriety when it started producing jackpots totaling over $100 million. First, the Sunshine State, Florida, got involved a few years ago, and now California, on the other coast, has joined in the fun.
“We have so many other ways to gamble here in California, so I’m glad that we finally have Power ball as well,” said an excited Rachel Krudrow, just minutes before buying her first Powerball lottery ticket. “I know it’s a long shot, but somebody has to win, right?”
And so the fantasy begins in California. Although the first drawing for Californians produced no winners, that does not mean people are ready to give up on the chance to win hundreds of millions of dollars.
“I will play it every week, and most weeks two times a week,” said Sam Barton. “I spend plenty of money in our casinos here in California, and that is just for entertainment. This is the same thing for me. Each week, I get to watch on television and find out if I’m rick. There’s nothing more American that the dream of one day being rich.”
